L'auteur dramatique Joe Orton fit de cette phrase le titre d'une de ses pièces dans les années 60. Cette expression évoque le refoulement sexuel associé à l'époque victorienne, mais s'utilise également pour décrire une situation dans laquelle quelqu'un assiste à une scène intime à l'insu des participants ou bien a accès à des informations censées être confidentielles. -
